The inaugural fosterIAN award nominations

fosterIAN (fos-tîr’ē-ən) – an award given for excellence in the theatre that I have witnessed.

For a long time, one of my life’s ambitions has been to get the word ‘fosterian’ into the lexicon. I always thought it would be an adjective, like Thatcherite or Marxist, but I’ve now come to realise it is actually a noun, and hence we have the first fosterIAN awards. (Basically, if it’s good enough for Lord Olivier, I can have my own awards too!) Nominations can be found below, and results will be announced early in the New Year.

  1. Arcadia was excellent but not play of the year material in my opinion. A very risk averse production, squarely aimed at the Leicester Square half price tickets with its primetime bbc sitcom casting. Swap that around with Enron and I could just about let it slip.

  2. Enron was good for sure, but for me lacked the dramatic intensity of Arcadia: the presentation of Enron was ingenious but the familiarity with the story meant that in the end I preferred the mysteries surrounding Sidley Park.
And it ended with couples waltzing round the floor, that trumps dinosaur puppets anyday!
